Performance Dance is pleased to present a winter ballet workshop entitled Freedom’s Dance held at The Ballet School of Stamford (http://www.balletschoolofstamford.org), Saturday 4:00PM to 5:30PM from March 7 through April 25. "We are inspired to bring a community of adult dancers together", said Nancy Schwartz, who will lead the workshop, “to celebrate our national treasure; the right of artistic freedom". The workshop’s focus is on the individual dancer’s choice, storytelling, and creation. In response to the world news of “Je Suis Charlie”; we will build an environment to foster the creative spirit.
“Most ballet dancers are told what steps to dance and how to move: this workshop is about each individual’s discovery and creating a collective and unique choreographed story. “Freedom’s Dance” is an essay on form, shape and phrasing -- each dancer will respond differently to the process -- how does it feel to put their unique movement over music – and how does the heart and mind respond. We will create a piece by and for each dancer. Framed by a theme, structured with music by Debussy, “La Plue Que Lente”; we will start with a ballet barre warm up; and move quickly to the creative process. Aided by simple prompts from Nancy Schwartz; we will work on group and individual movement and learn from each other.
Nancy Schwartz has an extensive background in both ballet and modern dance over the past thirty years. A professional dancer and founder of multiple dance companies, she continues her studies in New York and Connecticut.
We welcome any adult dancer with a basic ballet vocabulary to create with us. Reservations required by February 25th to firstname.lastname@example.org. Session Cost: $200.00. Further information please visit: performancedance.com.
